The Origin

In most families, one person quietly carries everything — every policy number, every account detail, every password. When that person can't, everything falls apart. Smarana was built so no family has to scramble in their worst moment.
The Problem
Emergencies are never just medical — they're informational. Insurance policies buried in drawers, account numbers nobody can find, critical details locked in one person's memory. A crisis becomes a scramble the moment that one person can't answer.
Generic password managers and cloud drives aren't built for this moment — they don't understand Aadhaar, LIC policies, or EPF/NPS/PPF accounts, and they don't ask “is my family ready?” in language anyone but a technical user would understand.
The Concept
One kit, sorted for life — not a folder, a plan.
Smarana organises everything a family might need in a crisis into four missions — Essentials, Money, Protection, and Life Assets — rather than one undifferentiated vault. Each mission tracks its own readiness score, turning an open-ended chore into a completable checklist.

Designing for India, First
Aadhaar, LIC, NPS, EPF, and PPF flows are purpose-built rather than adapted from generic document upload — because these instruments have their own verification patterns, card formats, and family-sharing needs.
Document shape before upload flow
Mapped each financial instrument's real-world document shape — Aadhaar's front/back format, LIC policy numbers, EPF/NPS/PPF account structures — before designing any upload flow, instead of reusing one generic 'upload a file' pattern.
Per-document card states
Every document type — add, view, edit, reupload, share, delete — needed its own visible states, so a family member under stress never has to dig into a menu to find the action they need.
Aadhaar as the template
Built the Aadhaar flow first, since it's the single most commonly requested ID in an Indian emergency, then used it as the interaction template for every other identity document.
Consistent pattern, adapted fields
Extended the same card pattern to LIC, NPS, EPF, and PPF flows — keeping the interaction model consistent while adapting field-level detail to what each instrument actually requires.
Missions over one long list
Grouped every document type into four life missions rather than one undifferentiated vault, each with its own readiness score — turning documentation from an open-ended chore into a completable checklist.
